Bridge Failure Results In Train Crash in Paulsboro, NJ

A bridge crashed in Paulsboro, NJ on the morning of November 30, 2012. A bridge failure is being reported as the cause of the crash. Reports indicated 28 people are being treated for injuries, including respiratory problems associated with exposure to leaked chemicals.  Read the full story here.

Several tanker cars  derailed and fell into the Mantua Creek near the Delaware River during the crash. At least one of the tanks was carrying the chemical vinyl chloride. Vinyl chloride is a known cancer-causing agent and is hazardous.  The Environmental Protection Agency’s website has more information regarding risks associated with vinyl chloride exposure.
