Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall for the 2015 and 2016 model year Ford Transit Wagon due to defective rear seat belts. According to Ford, the rear seat belts can fail to latch properly if any heavy object is placed on top of them. Any seat belt failure can increase the risk of injury in an accident. To date, Ford stated it was unaware of any injuries or accidents related to the condition.

How many vehicles are affected by the recall?

The recall affects 51,470 Ford Transit wagons in North America. The affected Ford Transit Wagons were built in Ford’s Kansas City assembly plant. Ford stated 48,990 of the impacted vehicles are in the U.S., while 1,781 are in Canada and 699 are located in Mexico.

Ford has also issued a recall for thousands of Ford F-150 pickups. The recall affects Ford F-150s from the 2016 model year. The affected F-150s were manufactured in the company’s plant in Dearborn, Michigan. According to Ford, the defective F-150 trucks have an issue with their multi-contour seats. The seats may misidentify an adult as a child when the front passenger seat’s massage function is activated. This mistake would prevent the front passenger airbag from deploying in a collision, which raises the risk of injury.
