Attorney William Coppol of our law firm obtained a $4.3 million dollar verdict before a federal jury on May 13, 2013. Bill tried the case in the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania before the Honorable Gene E.K. Pratter.
The case was brought on behalf of a worker who lost several fingers when his hand was pulled into the rollers of a sammying machine used for leather processing. The machine was designed and manufactured by Rizzi 1857 S.p.A., an Italian corporation.
Our firm alleged that the machine was defectively designed for failing to include all necessary safety features, including safety features that would have stopped the machine if a person’s hand was pulled into the machine. Bill argued that this included the use of a photoelectric beam across the accident area in addition to other guards and warnings, none of which were present on the machine.
